This week I have Rebecca, from Rebecca Rejoices! Thanks so much Rebecca for joining us this week!!
Blog: I write a weekly (mostly light-hearted) faith post at Rebecca Rejoices at www.fancylittlethings.com/category/rebecca. I am also co-founder of Sheshares.org, a Christian website encouraging women to choose grace over gossip, restoration over resentment, and peace over pride. Sheshares.org is already online at Facebook and Twitter now, and the website is in final development! Find us by going to http://sheshares.org.
twitter handle: @RebeccaRejoices
Age: I will be celebrating my 21st birthday for the 20th time this summer
What first drew you to blogging? When I first started blogging, it was just because Extreme Couponing came out on TV in the US, and my friends kept calling me asking how to coupon (I am the Undercover Couponer!). So, I thought I would put it all down on a website so that they could find all the info in one place. From there, my humorous writing got noticed by a few other places/websites, and I started writing (and ghost-writing) for other places. While I don’t write regularly at http://frugalandfast.com anymore, you can still check it out for couponing basics or for an idea of my humorous tone.
What is your blogging philosophy? Speak the truth. Be yourself. Have fun. If any of those three are missing, take some time to ponder why. (I stopped having fun after a while….and realized it was a signal for me to let go of one path. Once I did, God had a much more exciting path for me to take!)
What is one thing every mother should do with her kids? Laugh. As often as you can. Whenever you can. Teach them to love life – with laughter.
Favourite book/movie/song: Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (the book, the movies, and the songs (!?!)) I am always on the edge of my seat until the end–will Darcy and Elizabeth find true love??? And Colin Firth is the only Darcy worth any comment. On this issue, there can be no debate. ![]()
favourite blogs: FancyLittleThings.com, of course! But someday, I want to grow up and be Kate Elizabeth Conner at http://kateelizabethconner.com/. She is my kind of funny. I am her biggest fan. Except perhaps her mother. Maybe.
favourite way to spend alone time is: writing or practicing for a speech/presentation. Yes, I am a total nerd. And I love it.
Pedicure or manicure? Cure for what? Sorry, I have two young kids. The only curing going on is with band-aids and kisses.
Favourite guilty pleasure: OK, pedicures and manicures. You caught me.
my biggest pet peeves are: People who know it all. I am a recovering know-it-all, and I
understand that surrounding myself with other know-it-alls just leads to more temptation. I mean, if I know it all, and you “think” you know it all, but you are saying something that doesn’t match what I already know, how can we both know it all? Someone’s going down. (Lord, help us. Two know-it-alls in the same room. Have mercy on my soul.)
ideal date night: Any date night is the ideal date night. We could be going to scrub a coliseum’s floor with only toothbrushes for tools, but as long as it’s a date night, I’m in. (Did I mention we have two young children?)
hidden talents: I can make the sound of a telephone ringing with my mouth. While I may not become as famous as Jim Carrey for this feat, I am quite the hit with the 6 year old crowd.
sweet or savoury treats: There’s this thing called a Chocolate Candle at a restaurant we frequent on Tuesdays (Kids Eat Free–I am a walking encyclopedia of KEF nights in my area.). It has a white candle thin core, surrounded by chocolate mousse, and covered with a solid chocolate coating. It is not for the faint of heart. I think it is meant to be shared, but hey…this is chocolate we’re talking about. Order your own.
favourite meal: Homemade pierogies. Alas, there are no stores in my area that sell homemade pierogies, and when it comes to cooking, the best thing I make is reservations. If you are from Michigan, though (I am a former Michigander…see me raise up my hand to show you where I used to live?), feel free to visit me…as long as you bring some Hamtramck heaven with you when you come.
favourite snack to make: See above. (Cooking + Rebecca = Fail) Does opening a banana or washing an apple count as “making” a snack? If so, my kids have a gourmet chef for a mother.
Takeout or homemade meals? HA! See above. Again. (True be told, I haven’t poisoned anyone from my cooking. Yet.)
define your style: I actually recently won a free, all expenses paid trip to New York, including a $2500 shopping spree with a personal shopper. (I know, you hate me. Read about it more here if you’d like. Before the trip, the image consultant/personal shopper called me to ask me how I would describe my style. I said, “Um, sexy conservative, I guess?” She said, “Oh, you mean classic?” So, classic it is. Though I think “sexy conservative” sounds, well, sexier, in a conservative kind of way.
style icon: My grandmother. Always dressed with taste with a beautiful chunky necklace to boot. To this day, I love my chunky necklaces. Reminds me of her.
favourite place/brand to shop at: If I say Nordstrom, will you hate me? And then, if I say I get most of my stuff there for free, will you hate me even more? Both are true. (Though I do love Nordy Rack as well.) I almost “have” to shop at Nordy, at least for shoes. I wear a big, beautiful size 11 shoe (translation: skis), and most stores stop at size 10. So, I am “forced” to go there. The hardships I must suffer and endure, like shopping at Nordstrom. Ah, such is life.
favourite way to spend the weekend: Playing with the kids, laughing with my husband, reading a book, watching a corny romantic movie, and writing. Toilet cleaning is, alas, not in my Top 10 Ways to Spend the Weekend.
Favourite thing about mothering a boy: I share the house with a living example that science is wrong. You CAN expend more energy than you consume, and still grow and grow. Ask any mother of a busy 6 year old boy.
Favourite thing about mothering a girl: Ah, drama. I was the only one crying in my house for 9 years before my daughter showed up. Now, I have plenty of company in that regard. I just bought some stock in a tissue company. I have a feeling the stock will continue to rise as my daughter continues to grow. And I love every sappy minute of it.
Thanks so much for sharing today Rebecca!! If you are not following her on twitter, GO NOW and follow her. She’s hilarious!!
