If you asked me.

If you asked me when I was five, what I wanted to be, I would have probably said I wanted to be a Mommy.

If you asked what I wanted to do when I was six, it was work. I was going to work while my husband took care of our babies.

When I was ten, I wanted to be a nurse.

When I was twelve, I wanted to be a rock star.

When I was sixteen, I wanted to be a photographer.

My parents bought me a Canon Rebel xt  for my birthday.

I took it with me every where.

It came with me to the States (more than once), to Portugal, to Germany, 2 different countries in Africa and of course Canada.

Then my beloved camera died. It was tragic. I put my love of photography on hold, and focused on raising our babies.

But now, I think it is time to share some of my vintage photos with you.

Me. 18. Portugal.

My favourite self portrait. 18. Portugal.

Guimaraes. One of the many castles we visited.

I was drawn to this chair after we went through Serralves Museum in Porto. I love it.

When we lived in Porto, we befriended a family there. One day we went to an itty bitty town, to see a winery. This lady was sitting outside one of the buildings. When I asked her if I could take her picture, the family we were with said not bother, as she was crazy. I wondered where she had been, who she had raised, who she had loved. While we traveled Portugal I had along a film camera, and I took a different angle shot of her. It was amazing. I wish I knew where it was, so that I could share it with you.

Africa. Once you go, part of your heart remains.

This was at a race. At the time, it wasn’t very often that they saw a tall (to them, most of the men in that country are my height) blonde, woman holding a camera.

This is one of my favourite memories of Africa. I had the privilege of working with an American midwife/nurse, while I was there I got to work in the clinic. Finding heartbeats, finding TWINS, watching the locals weigh babies. The singing, the talking, the beads (the more necklaces, the wealthier the lady was), the fabric. I loved it.

I hope you enjoyed my pictures!
